The parish church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, built during the 18th century, is listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments. It presents a main facade of an elegant sobriety whose decorative elements are inherited from the reign of Louis XV. In late 20th century, the church has been completely decorated in late 18th century Italian style.

This modern museum is a former gendarmerie (police office). Due to its maritime and economic importance across the Mediterranean Sea, it's obvious that there should have been a police office. It has been established in the 19th century in Saint-Tropez , the police office was in charge of enforcing the law.

It's not a secret that Saint-Tropez is known for its film industry as well. The gendarmes finally made their mark on the Tropezian cinematographic landscape through the film The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez in the 20th century.
