Description
The Fête de la Musique is an event at which amateur and professional musicians, performers in the field of music, DJs, etc. perform in public spaces free of charge (for example in pubs, bars, gardens, galleries, museums etc.). No entrance fee is charged.
The festival of music takes place every year on 21 June, the calendar start of summer - in more than 540 cities worldwide, including over 300 cities in Europe. Across Germany, more than 50 cities now take part in the festival. In some of the German cities where the Fête de la Musique takes place, there are local contact persons who coordinate the activities, mediate, establish contact with the municipal authorities and promote the event. Since 2018, there has been a Germany-wide singalong, and since 2019 a Europe-wide singalong, in which the Ode to Joy is sung in the national language as a flash mob in the participating countries.
