Saint Tropez Nightlife wasn’t this famous in the beginning. It used to be an ordinary fishing village until it was discovered by Guy de Maupassant and Paul Signac at the end of the 19th century. Many other writers and artists followed and so, the place became a meeting point of the fine arts. For example, Paul Signac, Henri Matisse, and Pierre Bonnard, whose works are also exhibited in the Musée de l’Annonciade at the harbor. At that time, there were no holiday houses or even luxury hotels.

These came in the ’50s, when the little place became famous worldwide, especially through the film “Et Dieu… créa la femme” with Brigitte Bardot. The film was shot there in 1956 and resulted in a veritable onslaught of artists but also of high society. It was Brigitte Bardot and Gunter Sachs who made Saint Tropez famous together with the gendarmerie films of Louis de Funès. Later on, the television series of the same name “St. Tropez” also contributed to the popularity.
